Paper towel dispensers are used in many restrooms to dispense paper towels as a sanitary and healthy option to hot air dryers. The objective of these dispensers is to provide a simple and efficient way of providing you with a sheet of paper to dry your hands. There are several types of dispensers that are available but there are three main categories… The first is the infrared dispenser where the infrared sensor detects a motion of the hand and provides a length of paper towel. The second is the dispenser that is operated by a hand lever and provides a slip of paper when the lever is pulled. The third is the most common and inexpensive dispenser where the user has to pull on a hanging paper towel and a sheet is cut and made available for use.
The third type of dispenser is widely used because it is effective and low-cost. It is operated by using both hands to pull down on the exposed part of the paper towel inside. This pulling motion activates the spindle inside the dispenser and produces a length of paper towel. If, by any chance, there is no exposed length of paper, there will be a knob on the face of the dispenser which you can turn to operate the spindle and produce a length of paper.
As you pull down on the paper, the spindle rotates with the paper roll because a rubber skin on its surface creates friction between the skin and the paper surface. There is a lever at the end of the spindle which is attached to two springs. The turning of the spindle also causes the lever to turn and lengthen the springs. There is also a cutting attachment on the spindle. When the specified length of towel has been reached, the cutter comes out of the spindle for an instant to cut the paper and then retracts. The return of the springs to the normal position provides a nice clean cut. This process continues until the paper roll is exhausted or jammed when the jam has to be cleared.
The benefits of paper towel dispensers
Paper towel dispensers are a good idea if you want to maintain superior levels of hygiene in your bathroom and minimize the risk of infection from germs and bacteria. They have definite advantages over other forms of hand drying such as conventional hand towels. The most obvious advantage is that the towels are only used once and then thrown away so that there is no chance of infecting other users. Keeping the paper towels in a dispenser keeps them secure and clean and there is no chance of anybody tipping over the towels on the bathroom floor which could happen if they are merely stacked on a shelf…
Another major benefit of paper towel dispensers is that they will save you money on maintenance and on electricity costs if you happen to use an electric hot hair dryer. The only maintenance that they require is for paper towels to be replaced when they run out. All you have to do is to keep a stock of paper towels to restock the dispenser from time to time. They also have the advantage of being eco-friendly and green because the paper is low grade paper that is often made from recycled paper and the dyes are biodegradable.
Types of dispensers
When you are choosing a dispenser for your restroom or your kitchen, there are several types of dispensers that you can choose from. If counter space is a major issue, you can choose to install an under the cabinet design where it does not take up valuable counter space and is out of the way. These designs can easily be mounted with the use of small screws. Another convenient alternative to opt for is to choose a wall mounted dispenser where access to the paper towel is better.
The type of dispensers that you would choose will also depend on the kind of paper towels that you would be using as well as a quantity of towels that you would like to dispense… For instance, there are different paper towel dispensers for roll towels, single fold, c-fold, or multi-fold paper towels. You may wish to examine prices of each of these options to see which would be your most cost-effective choice
Automatic dispensers were first introduced in the 1980s and use motion sensors so that the user is not required to touch the dispenser in order to gain access to the paper towels. These dispensers use motion sensors so that just a wave of your hand will produce a paper towel without your needing to have any physical contact at all. Typically, infrared frequencies will be used so that when your hand disrupts the frequency, an “on” switch is triggered. Batteries or a plug-in electric socket are used as a power source for the dispenser to operate. In addition, the dispenser can be set to dispense specific lengths of paper every time the motion sensor is triggered to control wastage.

This ensures that there is no fear of infection of communicable diseases that are spread by touch because neither the dispenser nor any levers need to come in contact with a user. This can be a big plus point for environments that see a higher level of traffic. Conventional hand operated dispensers would not provide adequate protection in these environments because of the increased chances of spreading communicable diseases such as colds or the flu. You also get to choose from a wide range of styles and colors and obtain a higher degree of durability at an affordable price.
Conventional hand operated paper dispensers also tend to increase wastage because people tend to take more towels than they actually need. On the other hand, automatic dispensers will only dispense towels one at a time. They will also satisfy your green instincts since the majority of them use recycled paper. The materials in which they are available include plastic, metal and wood and they can be installed by anybody without requiring professional installation skills.
